Poyner Spruill partner Jim O’Brien will join Gov. Bev Perdue and a select delegation team in Los Angeles for the state’s California Film Mission, March 17-19.
O’Brien, who also leads the firm’s Entertainment Law Practice Group, is one of more than a dozen traveling to the West coast to represent North Carolina and help strengthen and further communicate the Governor’s commitment to grow and sustain the state’s film industry.
“It is a privilege and honor for me to participate in this mission to promote North Carolina’s film industry,” said O’Brien. “Our state is home to many appealing locations, talented crews and wonderful facilities that attract producers and production companies, and we look forward to growing film and television production in the area.”
O’Brien was appointed to the North Carolina Film Council in 2008. As head of Poyner Spruill’s entertainment law practice, he serves as counsel to film, television, music and other entertainment companies. In addition, Jim represents directors, producers, studios, on-screen talent, bands and musicians and has served as production counsel on many feature-length motion pictures.
In addition to his role with the firm’s entertainment law practice, O’Brien also practices corporate law and serves as lead counsel to buyers, sellers, investors and lenders in various mergers, acquisitions and dispositions, including triangular mergers, leveraged buyouts, asset purchases and sales, stock purchases and sales, and capital restructurings ranging in purchase price from less than a million dollars to several billion dollars.
